Kauai
Every time I visit this small rock in the middle of the Pacific, I can’t help but think of Jurassic Park—Harrison Ford and pterodactyls come to mind first. Thankfully, neither actually roam the island (well, at least not the latter).
Kauai, with its lush landscapes and wild beauty, always brings a sense of awe and wonder. This past trip was extra special because I shared it with my lovely wife and mum. We had no agenda, no itinerary—just pure, unplanned relaxation.
Of course, I couldn’t resist documenting the quiet moments. Normally, that means, “Hey, Fujifilm, you’re up!” But this time, I decided to switch things up. I packed my Sony A7C with a 50mm lens instead. The 50mm has always been one of my favorite focal lengths, but it had been sitting on the back burner for the past year or so.
Using it forced me to slow down—really think about composition, light, and subject matter under the warm Aloha sun. It was refreshing, a creative challenge I didn’t know I needed, and it reignited my love for photography.
Long story short: if you’re in a creative rut or lacking motivation, switch things up! Dust off that lens you never use or pull out the camera that’s been hiding in the back of your closet.
The images below were captured mostly around Hanalei Bay and Poipu—a mix of laid-back coastal charm and postcard-worthy views.
